RangE

Hmmm, it has been a real long week for me, and I’m glad its finally over.

I met up with Liheng, Eldwin and gang on Monday for lunch, and its real good to hear how well everybody is doing. Looking back, it has indeed been a fast 2 years for us. We are all now clearing (thankfully), and its quite interesting to hear about what is happening in their lives now. I guess I do miss quite a few of the SI people, and its real good to meet up now and then.

Ok, went back to camp on Tuesday because of range. I must say that the range organization was totally f***** up. Its like no one called me to inform me of any thing about the range. All the while, it has been me calling up people, asking people here and there for information about the range. I mean what is the IC doing? Tsk, in fact, I find it amazing that I was actually so hardworking as to keep asking about it. I do wonder who will get in trouble if I were to miss the range.

Anyway, pre-range foreshadowed how screwed up this range was. Its like they only indented 1 bus to send people for IMT, and even so, the bus brought us to the wrong IMT and in the end we had to re-travel to the actual place. The best part was that my group was the first to leave for IMT, but we were not the first to shoot. Its like they asked us to wait here and there. In fact I think we waited 3-4 hours before it began. Anyway, by the time we got back camp it was already 12.

To make it worse, they had standby at 3. Ha, the bunk was in an ultra pathetic condition so we literally spent the whole afternoon tidying and cleaning up everywhere. Then, I went to office and I bumped into Dex. God, I was like stuck in the middle of nowhere without a safe place to go. Only when I went back to bunk at 4 plus did I know that there was no standby and that it was all a ‘kancheong’ CCC trying hard to wayang. Haiz.

Well, Thursday was the actual range. It was screwed up. I mean during zeroing, my entire 2nd magazine was not recorded. Real weird, but I reckoned its not because I boboh since my first magazine all hit. Anyway, thankfully my confirmation magazine proved that it wasn’t my fault and that it was the machine fault (my grouping was 3.9cm!!!). Ha, well, proved that my faithful M16 was in good condition.

The next screwed up part was that there was no practice shoot. Amazing right? Its like they trying to cheat us of the SAF rounds we are entitled to shoot. Ok, I know they will say cause too many people, but if that was so, they could have split us up into 2 groups so that 1 group shoot on Day 1 and the other on Day 2. But then, obviously the organizer was lazy or should I say overly ambitious.

Anyway, there were a lot of cocked up bits for day shoot. First, the target board was faulty and it caused some re detailing and a really long wait. I was happy with how I shot, caused I hit all my 15 rounds. YEA. Haha, but sadly my detail only hit 51 out of 75 rounds. Jeff was like saying about how he missed so many and just hit 4. Now, that was weird because apparently he could hit his Fig. 12 but he missed the Fig. 11. Hmmm, so we observed for the next few details and I decided that the target board was screwed up because the next 4-5 shooters all seemed to be missing the Fig.11 like mad. Which is the same as impossible. Well, they tweaked the targets and it was even more cocked since sometimes it just drop without any round getting near it. I mean there was a lane, which had a target board felling 34 times, and 1 detail even had a combined score of 100 odd. With that, I totally decided that the scores don’t matter at all.

Night shoot was better than the previous one caused the targets were at least much more visible. Well, I shot better this time round compared to the last range, and I think I missed at most 5 shots for my night shoot. Now, amazingly, when the scores were out, my detail scored 68 out of 75! Amazingly ridiculous high! Its like the previous time 6 of us combined for a grand total of 50+, and that was the highest then, but yet 5 of us could hit 68. Well, missed marksman by 1 shot so went to complain to conducting but they could do nothing. Haiz, ok, not as if I think we totally deserved the marksman (or maybe we do!) since the lanes are all so screwed up, but it still feels good to complain a bit especially since the whole organization of this range was BAD.

But I’m happy after the range caused at least my primary objective was met. Haha. Ooh, signed bulk of my clearance too so I just have the S1 branch to go… 10th here I come!
