China Xiamen Trip Day 2

Next, we went to the coast of Xiamen where you can actually view Taiwan’s JinMen. Yes, it is that near! You can literally see the islands of Jinmen, and according to the tour guide, it is just 30 mins away by boat. God, I never expect China and Taiwan to be that close!
In the afternoon, we went to the 鼓浪屿风景区 (Gulangyu) to take a look at this tourist hotspot. 鼓浪屿 is this island that was actually run by the foreign powers during the late Qing period, hence you can see buildings of different architectural styles that were the ex-colonial powers consulate. Well, the place is a good place to see different buildings' designs and styles and I must admit that it was refreshing from the modern city buildings of Xiamen.

At night we went to watch this performance called 舞动厦门. It was a performance that promotes the cultural heritage of Xiamen as well as the Minnan (or Hokkien) region. I must admit that it was pretty interesting and it showcased to us the various cultures and traditions that the people of Xiamen has. We also took some pictures of their 中山路, which looks a bit like 士林 to me. But I must praise the government of Xiamen for using so many LEDs to create a vibrant and dynamic night view of Xiamen.
