London (2)

St. Paul’s Cathedral was simply awesome. I was totally enthralled by the Cathedral, and I’ve finally understood why a lot of people kept referring to it as Sir Christopher Wren’s greatest architecture. Hmmm, I don’t exactly know how to describe it, but currently it is the most impressive church/cathedral that I’ve been to (the Temple of Heaven in China was equally fabulous, and I missed the Kinkaji in Japan!). Ha, my first impression when I was there was that my whole trip to London can be considered a success, that I won’t leave London with much regrets. Ok, hope the photos convey the grandeur of the place. But I truly doubt it.

We carried on trooping down, and we passed the Royal Courts of Justice as well as LSE. Hmm, I didn’t exactly see much of LSE (or was there much to see?), just its courtyard and stuff. It gave me the same feel as SMU, except that it seems to be much more compact? I don’t really know, but I guess I don’t regret being rejected by them? Ha.

Our next stop was Oxford Street, which is essentially the Orchard Road of London. Well, I thought that it paled in comparison to Orchard Road, but that was because I was just at the beginning of it. Sheesh, Oxford Street is really long! There’s a lot of shops, a few shopping complexes, some theatres/art houses, pubs and plenty of people on the street. In fact, it should be more of a road than a street. Well, we had a good time walking down the street, looking at some shops (most of the stuff ain’t cheap, but Top shop prices are comparable with Singapore’s), walking to Middlesex Hospital (weird name, but apparently it is one of the oldest hospital in London). We met Ivan at the junction of Oxford Circus, and he brought us to Chinatown for lunch (thankfully, cause we were both tired and hungry!).

We had lunch (and finally, proper Chinese food in 4 weeks!) at this small Hong Kong restuarent. Well, for the price that we paid, I must say the portions were decently huge (might be 1 and a half times to twice the size of a normal Singapore plate). It was really cheap (by UK's standards, not Singapore's cause the plate of duck rice cost like 12 sing dollars!), and they have really good chilli oil! Yup, I do miss chilli (including chilli sauce), so it really felt good to eat something spicy in the UK (by the way, apparently in most shops here that dared to put the chilli sign beside their dish, it is maybe as hot as our ketchup?).

After which, we walked over to Lilywhite, and I must said the sporting equipment there was cheap. I saw the NUFC away jersey selling for just 13 pounds if I remember correctly. A pity they don’t have the home jersey.
