London 5

Oh yup, I spent the night at Hughes Parry Hall, which is where Clarence stays. We decided to walk to Buckingham Palace and Whitehall, and along the way we passed by the British Library. It is one of the 6 most powerful libraries in the United Kingdom (along with York, Cambridge and Oxford and 2 others that I don’t know), as apparently once you publish anything in the UK, the library will obtain a copy of it.

We walked past University College London too! It’s quite huge for a London university, and I must say I was impressed with it. It does look really nice. Well we walked past Oxford Street again and we reached Trafalgar square, and it does look really pretty! Here are some pictures I took. Oh my personal favorite is the one which shows me chasing the pigeons. Hehe.

By the way, Nelson's Column is at Trafalgar Square. It was build to commemorate the death of Admiral Horatio Nelson's death at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The battle of Trafalgar is the most significant naval battle of the Napoleonic Wars and it confirmed the supremacy of the British navy in the 19th century.

We reached Whitehall and the Houses of Parliament as well as saw Big Ben (or Uncle Ben) and Westminster Abbey. They were all gorgeous! Oh, we walked past Downing Street too! For those who don't know, the British Prime Minister stays at 10 Downing Street, but that place is so heavily guarded that we could only see a bar inch/corner of the building. Ha. Sheesh, it is really scary to keep seeing lovely buildings with such distinct architectures right in the heart of a modern city like London. But I guess that’s what makes it special.

Oxford, Cambridge, London, Dublin, Scotland and Wales are the legal deposit libraries' locations. Not a bad idea, actually - if one burns down like Alexandria all those years ago, you've still got 5 more.
