Busy Busy Week

The past week was pretty eventful. Let me attempt a brief recap, and hopefully I never leave out much details.

Ok, last weekend was sort of horrible. It’s like my computer died on Sunday (the graphics card was the problem), so I had to call the HP personnel on Monday to report my issue. The good thing is that they agreed to send their technical support staff on Tuesday to my place and try to revive my computer.

So I went down to the tailor on Monday to test fit my suit that I was making, and after which I went down to collect my Visa. There was a lot of people waiting outside the office even though it wasn’t 4, so I was thankful that I was like the 2nd or 3rd person to collect my passport. Now, I just need to make my visa claim and hopes the money comes in soon.

Tuesday was hectic. I stayed at home in the morning and prayed to my ancestors (it’s the 15th day of the 7th Lunar month), then I rushed to the airport after lunch to send Eldwin off. Ha, I admit I felt awkward being there since the others there are his JC classmates and his platoon mates. Well, at least I know Chris there. Hopefully I will get to see Eldwin again next year during summer or in the near future in either Europe or USA.

Then, I went to Dunman Road there to help celebrate Hong’s Birthday. As I arrived earlier, I helped the others to decorate and prepare the place for the party. The theme for the party is pirates, so I must say some of the decorations are indeed quite nice. Haha, I must say the party on the whole was great, and even though I felt left out (William was the only other guy there from our squad) at moments, at least I had others to talk with. Anyway, after the party we went down to Orchard KTV and sang all the way until 6 am in the morning. It was really tiring.

Wednesday was spent at home resting from the adventures of the previous day. I must say this year NDP is pretty similar to all the previous ones – there wasn’t any special performance or anything unique. Hmm, seems like all the performances are getting too formulaic. Ok, I admit you can’t alter much of the parade but I’m sure there is plenty of scope for differentiation during the performance section. Even the fireworks are starting to look repetitive and similar.
Thursday I went to play Frisbee with the MOE gang, and we went to Carl’s Junior for dinner. We had a great time bonding there and talking about all our ambitious plans and funny ideas. Also, I was quite shocked to hear about the London terrorist plot.

OK, I must say this. This is like the very first time which I am super emotional about terrorism. I must say this; the terrorists are totally screwed up. Why must they actually hatch such a plan now! This is like super destructive to all travelers around the world! Ok, I’m directly hit too as I planned to travel a lot in Europe when I’m studying there, so these recent measures that are put in place does badly affect me.

Friday I went to open my HSBC account as well as shopped around for clothes. I got my jacket, so now all I need to look for is a good windbreaker that I can wear when I play sports over in the UK. I think I might take a look at Nautica’s or Addidas’s ones.

Saturday I went to Expo in the morning for the NLB sale and I must say it was a really bad experience. I wasn’t expecting much of a crowd so I was shocked to see that the queue to enter the place was like 40 minutes long! Even worse, when I got in, most of the good things (like travel guides to Europe) were gone! Sheesh, well, at least I got a travel guide for Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Oh, the queue to pay was bad too. I think it took me another 40 minutes as well?

Next stop is the Cambridge tea party at this place opposite Shangri-La Hotel. Oh man, the house was huge! It is a mansion to be precise, with a super huge compound as well. I must say I met a lot of other freshers as well as a few old friends there, and the seniors certainly did help to clarify some of my questions.

After which, I hopped down to Suntec’s NUS Guild house to celebrate Philibert’s 21st birthday party. It was a truly impressive setting, with tables decorations that look like its meant for a wedding dinner. There was good food (inter-continental buffet style), and of course good company. Hmm, guess there’s like quite a lot of bonding been done among the scholars.

Today there was the massive CCIS gathering at Miramar hotel, and it is considered massive as it has CCIS people from the 2002 batch all the way down to the 2006 batch. Its like literally the bulk of CCIS history. Haha, it is amazing although I must say the setting was bad for interaction. Looks like next time we should have really huge tables that can accommodate 20-30 people so as to create bonding.

I will be working on 4 days this coming week, so it should be quite interesting too. Hmm, there are also more MOE gatherings next week. Well, looks like my life now is pretty hectic. I think I should start getting my packing list out so that I will be ready…
